Everyone has those days, where everything seems to be piling up. You’ve committed to taking 18 credits and working overtime for your campus representative job and finals are coming up quickly. You’re probably considering all-nighters and ingested more caffeine than you previously thought possible. You’re on your way to burning out, so it’s time to work through those burnout blues.
Don’t Deny It
Burnout happens. Some days are extra stressful, maybe without you even knowing why. But when it does happen, learn to recognize it and change your habits. Most of all, as soon as you accept it, you won’t feel guilty about taking some time for yourself– and, trust me, you need it.
Stay Healthy
Too many late night pizza orders and brownie sundae breakfasts can push you into a food coma, until you find it difficult to do much more than laze around. Stay active, eat well, and cut down on those all-nighters to keep those gears moving. Even a quick yoga session can get your mind back in shape.
Get Organized
Bring out the old legal pad! Or, even better, download productivity apps on your phone or laptop to keep on top of your to-do list. Also take the time to declutter your room, desktop, and schoolwork. Keeping things organized and optimizing your routine will make you feel like you have more control over your life, and keep you mentally focused.
Find a Hobby
There’s nothing worse than feeling like you should be productive, but finding yourself unable to rise to the challenge. Instead of overthinking one major stressor, work on a challenging hobby or a smaller, related project. That way, you’re still working while giving your body a chance to build up its reserves.
