Digital banners and billboards on college campuses

Proof That Your Billboard Went Up

How do you know that your digital out of home billboard really appeared across 100 different college campuses? If you work with Campus Commandos, we have a Student Ambassador at a majority of college campuses who takes a picture or video to show it happened. But, if you do not have a student ambassador to show you proof, you may also consider the below indicators.

Key Indicators of a “Real” Showing:

  • Impression Data: Providers offer real-time impression counts, estimating viewers based on traffic and display time.
  • Mobile Location Data: Billboards use sensors and buy data to track nearby cell phone IDs, knowing who saw the ad and their demographics.
  • Geofencing & Retargeting: Creating a virtual fence around the billboard captures device IDs, allowing advertisers to serve follow-up ads on apps or websites.
  • Website/Search Lift: A spike in direct website visits, branded searches (e.g., “your brand name”), or specific landing page views during the campaign.
  • Call Tracking: Using unique phone numbers on the ad attributes calls to the billboard.
  • Sales Correlation: Comparing sales in the billboard’s area to control areas without ads, or seeing immediate store visits after an ad with directions.
  • Brand Lift Studies: Surveys measure changes in brand awareness, favorability, and recall after exposure.
  • Social Listening: Monitoring social media mentions, hashtags, or user-generated content about the ad.
